| dc.description.abstract | Las turberas son ecosistemas extremadamente densos en carbono que liberan grandes cantidades de gases de efecto invernadero cuando se degradan. En este estudio, se investigaron más de 100 humedales en las tierras bajas del este de Colombia, encontrando turba (>40 cm) en 51 sitios. Se clasificaron nuevos tipos de turberas, como las de "arena blanca", y se estimó que estas áreas almacenan entre 0.60 y 4.22 petagramos de carbono. Mediante sensores remotos y aprendizaje automático, se generó el primer mapa regional basado en datos reales, revelando una distribución mucho más amplia de turberas de lo previamente documentado. Este hallazgo tiene implicancias cruciales para la conservación de ecosistemas tropicales ricos en carbono. | |
